A Skill is like a muscle. (Array!)

Empty your cup, so that may be filled… - Bruce LeeThis morning I went to the gym.

It was 8 months since I’ve stopped lifting some iron.

And luckily, I’ve joined a new gym with pretty amazing people.

Right after I stepped inside the door the instructor asked me.

Instructor: "When is the last time you lift some weights?"

El Cruz: "Hmmm - 8 months?

I can’t remember exactly, but I’m pretty sure it was more than 8 months.

Then he said...

Instructor: "I’m about to go home, but I can stay a little longer to get you started. You better hit the bike now and we start with some chest workout."

Then after hitting the bike, I’ve pumped some iron…

For starters…

We do Bench Press - 3 sets - 12 repetitions per set, and each side has 10 pounds.

Well, 10 pounds each?

Sheesh!! Piece of cake.

For the first set…I honestly can’t believe how hard it was to lift it.

Way back 8 months ago, I can even lift with 40 - 50 pounds each side, but now 10 lbs is killing me.

Also, the way he’s showing me the practice of lifting it was kinda bit different than the last time.

This time...I can feel every lb of iron I’m lifting, and my face is doing the talking.

It was hard, painful, and FUN!

I was shouting because I can feel the pain and the dopamine drip of happiness.

I LOVED IT.

So tomorrow we schedule the legs and shoulders.

Okay…

On the other hand, I’ve learned that muscle building is also related to skill cultivation.

Like writing or content creation or design or even just strategical thinking.

It’s hard when you’ve just started, but after a little bit of workout, you’ll eventually grow it and make it stronger.

But like muscle building, if in the event you’ve stopped doing it for a while…

You will experience a big discomfort because you let your skill shrink just like a muscle does.

Hopefully, you get the point.

Meowwww.
