Who do you think you are?

Who do you think you are?

I received a Facebook friend request from a high school classmate during the wee hours of the morning. I was still awake because I was doing an on-boarding phase for a new client.

I knew I had just accepted the friend invitation. All of a sudden, I found myself in a Facebook Group with our school name and batch year. A Messenger chat group also popped with the name of my section in my senior year.

It was the wee hours of the next morning. I was so sure I was the only one working in my office.

AND I was sure I did not enroll in any high school.

So it was. I found myself seeing a deluge of familiar names 20 years ago.

We’re having our high school reunion soon.

Before you say I look like a high school student so it doesn’t matter that it’s been 20 years, that’s not what I meant here.

When I was in high school, I was Ann the Average.

Average means almost unseen.

My classmates only knew me when they get to sit with me for at least a quarter of the year.

I remembered having a few groups of friends in school, with one of my supposedly friends said bad things behind my back.

I failed Math every time. The worst thing was taking Geometry in summer and wearing the uniform to school.

My teachers knew me because my parents were employees of the Professional Regulation Commission. It’s the government entity that issues their teacher’s license.

After high school, I told myself I will never become average again.

So I tried to become exceptional every time. Well, there are hits and misses. But I decide to think that I am exceptional. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

You may feel the same in high school or in your past life. You may even you’re average in your life right now.

But heres’ what I am going to tell you: You are who you think you are.

If you think you are a so-so person, then you said it.

If you think you are an average person, then you are.

If you think you are an exceptional person, then you are.

You decide how you think of yourself every day. You have the choice.

So, what do you think?Stay Exceptional,Ann Kristine
