An EYE-POPPING eye opener
Hello, .You must have seen this photo on my Facebook Page. As promised, here’s the story.I consider myself a late bloomer. Hindi ako natutong mag-powder ng mukha until malapit nang matapos ang school year noong first year high school ako. Johnson’s Face Powder at lip gloss ang make up ko noong college. Natuto akong mag-make up dahil nagkaroon ng international accreditation audit sa school na pinapasukan ko. So, what I am actually saying is if you are a single guy, I am low maintenance. (Wink wink)So paanong nangyari na ang isang late bloomer ay matututong ma-perfect ang kanyang kilay?Months ago, I had a photoshoot as part of my online re-branding. (You must have seen my official social media photos.) Part of the make up process ay ang paga-ayos ng kilay. So numipis na ang kilay ko. “Sundan mo na lang s’ya,” sabi ng hair and make up artist. (Men: sorry if I am speaking French. Please ask your mom, wife or girlfriend on this matter.)I noticed something different post-photoshoot, especially when I attended Date With Freedom Summit. May kulang na sa mukha ko! So I decided I needed to learn how to do eyebrow make up.Here’s the process of how I learned the eyebrow make up skill:
Naghanap ako ng YouTube videos. I Googled “How to do eye brow make up”. Naglabasan lahat ng top searches. Iba-ibang babae na mahilig magturo ng eye brow make up ang nakita ko. I watched two videos.
Naghanap ako ng eye brow pencil sa make up box namin ng Mama ko. Ayun, may maliit na pencil-like tool sa box! ‘Yun pala ‘yun! Hindi ko kasi pinapansin.
For the first time in my life, I went to the make up section of a department store! Naghanap ako ng eye brow pencil. Ang daming palang make up brands, I didn’t now what to choose! I ended up buying a good brand, at naka-sale pa! (Kaya pala madaming tao. Totoo talaga ang Social Proof ng Influence book ni Cialdini.)
While watching the videos, ang sabi ko, “Ah madali lang pala!” NOT! Hindi s’ya madali. Sa unang try ko, dulo lang ng kilay ko ang may make up. Weird! Hahahaha!
Para matuto ako, ilang araw akong naglalagay ng eye brow make up. Every day. Consistent. Naka-eye brow make up kaya ako habang naga-ayos ng website ko. (Hindi pa tapos ‘yan ha?)
I told a friend of this new-found interest. This friend is a make up expert. As in she reviews make ups. She listened to my stories and answered my questions.
At ayan na nga! Marunong na akong mag-eye brow make up! Palakpakan na may kasamang sigawan!
Ganu’n pala matuto kung paano maglagay ng kilay ng tama at pantay. Just like any thing that you want to learn in life:
You do your job of researching for information about what you want to learn. The Internet made it easier for us now.
You assess yourself if you want to learn a skill. Or if you want to level up (if you already know the skill).
You also check the current resources that you have. Kasi kung wala, magi-invest ka.
You realise (and accept) that learning anything is not overnight. You will commit mistakes along the way. For others, they quit learning after one try. Others strive until they become better.
You keep on trying. You will never stop even if life gets to you. Kung napansin n’yo, I only watched two YouTube videos. I spent more time trying to do the make up on myself. Why? There is a big difference between knowing and applying.
You seek mentors in any form (book, seminar, coaching, podcast, whatever) so your mistakes are lesser and success curve easier to achieve soonest.
Kilay is life ba ‘kamo? I say learning should be part of your life.Stay Exceptional,Ann KristineP.S.: Nasa Kerygma Conference ako this week. So if you see me, please say hi. I'd love to meet you!
